BAD MOMMY

I had a bad mommy moment this morning. (try saying that 3 times really fast)
I hate when I go to the grocery store (like I did yesterday) and I forget a major item like BREAD.
SO, this morning as I am playing short order cook for breakfast and making 3 lunches I see what is going to be a major problem. The loaf of bread is almost gone , so when I reach in to get the bread for sandwiches, there is only 5 pieces and 2 end pieces.....Oh, Crap. This mean someone will have to have one good piece and 1 end piece (the butt of the bread) All I could think about is Edie Murphy's comedy act where he talks about how poor they were growing up and his mom never took them to McD's , she always made them homemade hamburgers using the sandwich bread and she would even use the butt of the bread. Then he goes on to tell how all the kids use to make fun of him.....Great!!!! Now what I'm I going to do. Well, I thought about just being the cool mom and taking them lunch today, but I have a hair appt at 11 and I need to get the roots done (if you know what I mean) SO, I had to pick a kid that was going to get a sandwich with the butt of the bread....How do you do that, you ask????
Here's how I rationalized it..................Who would be the least mad at me?
Connor- he would be so mad and tell me that his life is over because he had the worst sandwich ever and he did not eat lunch and his day was ruin. (DRAMA)
Cody- would come home from school and would give me the cold shoulder all day. (DRAMA)
Kyle- he would come home and say "hey, did you know you made the sandwich with the end of the bread?" I say "oh, no, I did? I'm so sorry." he will say "that's o.k. mom, I still ate it"
and plus he is having a friend come home with him after school, so really, how mad can he get in front of his friend....
So, today Kyle you are the chosen one....cuz, you can handle the butt of the bread better than anyone else. Plus mommy will make it up to you this weekend, we will eat where you want to eat. Mommy love's all her boyz.

God Bless Middle Children!! They are always used to getting short changed about something. They're not the oldest and coolest, not the youngest and most babied. They have to find their place in the pecking order and are usually the better for it. Kiss.kiss.kiss to Kyle.

I can SO relate. Last week, I had to make my son's sandwich with TWO end pieces (or the 'rockey' pieces,as we call them. Bad mom - and with 2 boys in college, these days I only have the one to make school lunches for!
Also, my middle son (Connor) is like your Kyle!

You crack me up! I HATE to use the but of the bread too...That's if it stayes on the shelf that long. Chris calls me Ms. FreshyFreshington when it comes to food.

THAT IS SUCH A PRICELESS POST!!! Love it & laughing!!

If it's homemade bread, I love the "butt", but regular sandwich bread, I gotta go w/the middle!

Can't wait to hear how he milked it this weekend!

Okay... I'm rolling on the floor laughing at this, sistah!! I just had the same thing happen to me last week. Who will get the butt? Eric did of course. Adam would've freaked!!

Here's something cool I've taught my boys...
One day when I was out of bread, I asked them if they wanted to create their own "Lunchable" with me. (white trash lunchable) I let them put slices of turkey or ham in a baggie, they picked out some cheese to put in a baggie, they picked out chips or crackers, carrots, etc. They thought it was "way fun" and they actually ask to do this quite often. This idea is good to pull out of your magic hat when your bread is gone... slices, butts and all!!

I'll be in Lousiana all weekend at a baseball tournament. I'll catch you ladies on Monday morning. :)

I better get off my dad's computer... I've got a hankerin' for a good old fashioned butt bread sandwich. hee hee ~Jill :)

THAT ... is so incredibly universal!

It's only a problem when you don't have the "one" that would give you a relatively small dose of attitude.

It's ALL relative!

That is funny. Poor Kyle. None of my boys could have handled it as well as Kyle. Hope he enjoys being king for the weekend.

I usually throw an extra loaf in the freezer for just those kind of lunch emergencies. Making sandwiches for our family uses almost a loaf of bread.
